Innovative Pellet-Matrix Architecture
The High Broad SIC tile employs a fundamentally different approach to ceramic armor. Instead of monolithic tiles, we use precision-formed SiC cylindrical pellets (⌀18mm x 8mm) dispersed in a high-toughness elastomeric matrix. This architecture provides natural crack isolation—damage from one impact does not propagate to adjacent pellets, enabling true multi-hit performance. Compared with Al2O3 pellet systems, our SiC pellets provide 70% higher hardness (2500+ HV vs 1500 HV). Compared with B4C pellet systems, SiC offers virtually equivalent ballistic efficiency at 40-50% lower material cost.
Natural Crack Isolation
The elastomeric matrix between pellets acts as a crack arrestor. Impact on one pellet causes localized ceramic fracture without crack propagation to neighbors—each pellet functions as an independent protective element.
Conforms to Curved Surfaces
Unlike rigid tile arrays, the pellet-matrix composite can conform to single-curve and mild double-curve surfaces, making it ideal for contoured vehicle panels and shaped protection components.
SiC Pellets vs Al2O3 Pellets
SiC pellets (2500+ HV) provide 70% more hardness than Al2O3 pellets (1400-1600 HV), resulting in more effective projectile erosion and fragmentation at the strike face layer.
SiC Pellets vs B4C Pellets
While B4C pellets offer slightly higher hardness (2800-3200 HV), the cost premium of 2-3x rarely justifies the marginal performance gain. SiC pellets deliver 90% of B4C performance at half the cost.
